Range and natural history
Adults eat small aquatic insects, including midge larvae and mayfly nymphs. Eggs are deposited within the bottom substrate. Gravel is therefore part of both the adult habitat and the reproductive setting described in the FishBase account.
NCBI’s taxonomic record connects Nothonotus tippecanoe with its original combination Etheostoma tippecanoe. That naming history explains why biological references and modern regional lists may use different genera for the same species.
