Fresh water or salt water

The World Register of Marine Species sets three habitat flags on an accepted name: marine, brackish, and fresh. 1,258 of the 1,286 species carry them.

A species can carry two flags. A salmon is a freshwater fish and a saltwater fish, and it appears on both lists. The three counts therefore do not add up to the number of species, and the site never adds them.
