Range and natural history
Researchers reporting Arkansas natural-history observations found females carrying eggs in Flint Creek at Gentry in Benton County on May 15, 2015. The fish measured 55–70 millimeters in total length. This provides a specific, dated reproductive observation rather than an inferred calendar from another orangethroat darter.
The authors discuss the observation in the context of spring reproduction and use the egg-bearing females as evidence that breeding activity extends into mid-May in Arkansas. The date and locality make this stronger evidence than a breeding calendar transferred from another member of the orangethroat-darter group.
