The referenced study places this form in the Tennessee and Cumberland drainages and in the Arkansas, Ouachita and White river systems. A pronounced upper-lip projection and relatively high scale counts are reported identification features. Its belly is fully scaled, unlike that of the Tuckasegee darter. These technical distinctions are more dependable than assuming all green-colored darters are the same species.
