Natural history
FishTraits records use of soft-bottom settings, including muck, clay, and silt. Its diet categories include algae or phytoplankton and small animal prey. Such categories give a broad ecological outline rather than naming the exact food taken by an individual fish.
The compilation records reproduction from April through July in Alabama, with a representative maturity estimate of one year. These are regional life-history observations. FishBase also identifies the species as a non-annual killifish, so its life cycle should not be equated with the specialized seasonal-pool strategy of annual killifishes.
