About Goldspotted Killifish

Goldspotted killifish is a coastal fish of southeastern Florida, the Gulf of Mexico and the western Caribbean region from Yucatán toward Honduras. It occurs chiefly in marine water but also enters brackish habitats.

Tidal habitat

Tidal flats, creeks and mangrove areas are reported settings. FishBase classifies it as non-migratory. Its occurrence across coastal salinities should not be confused with a requirement for exclusively freshwater conditions.

Life history

This is not a seasonal killifish: its life cycle is not described as the annual, temporary-pool pattern associated with some other killifishes. The source also notes difficulty maintaining it in aquaria. A common name containing “killifish” therefore says little by itself about either its habitat or care requirements.
