Habitat and reproduction
Adults inhabit mangrove streams over very fine silt and mud. Records span nearly fresh water through marine salinity, consistent with the species’ occurrence in freshwater, estuarine and marine environments. FishBase describes it as a bottom spawner. Color can be striking, but substrate and salinity tolerance are equally useful parts of its natural history.
