About Pit-klamath Brook Lamprey

The Pit-Klamath brook lamprey is a freshwater, nonparasitic lamprey of the Klamath and Pit river systems in Oregon and California.

Range and natural history

Adults occupy riffles and runs in clear streams. Larvae use different microhabitats, including areas near weed beds and sand bars. This separation matters when interpreting surveys: sampling fast adult habitat alone may miss the larval stage.

FishBase reports sexually mature adults in Crooked Creek, Oregon, in mid-March. That is a documented local observation rather than a spawning calendar for every stream. Its slender lamprey form and stream residence should be considered alongside oral and body characters when separating it from other lampreys.
