About Caitipa Mojarra

Caitipa mojarra is a deep-bodied coastal fish of the tropical western Atlantic. Its range runs from the southern Gulf of Mexico through Central America and the Antilles to Brazil. FishBase reports a common total length of about 30 cm, with larger specimens recorded.

Lagoons and coastal bottoms

Mangrove-lined lagoons are a characteristic setting, alongside shallow marine areas with sand or mud. Juveniles occur in both brackish and hypersaline lagoons. The species therefore occupies coastal waters with quite different salt concentrations, rather than being restricted to ordinary seawater.

Feeding

The summary suggests small bottom-dwelling invertebrates as prey, but presents that diet as probable rather than firmly established. This uncertainty matters when comparing the species with other mojarras: a plausible feeding pattern should not be converted into a precise, verified list of prey.
