About Bigscale Goatfish

Bigscale goatfish is an eastern Pacific marine fish recorded from Baja California to Chile. Adults live over sand and mud, with published occurrences from very shallow coastal water to 67 m. FishBase reports a maximum total length of 30 cm.

Range and unusual records

The ordinary range lies in the warmer eastern Pacific. A specimen was also recorded at the heated discharge of the San Onofre nuclear power plant in southern California. That exceptional locality involved artificially warm water and should not be read as evidence of a broad, established California population.
